Tour Promotional Video

Black Beauty Music Video Feedback

After exporting the first draft of our music video, we have received the following comments for improvement:
  • We should re-think using black and white effects as it was a nice day when we filmed and the song is quite upbeat. The black and white makes it look a bit dull - the vintage filter over the top of the beach shots can be kept though as we received positive feedback for that
  • The pool shots need to be brightened up a bit to really stand out. At the moment they have a noise grain effect over them and we received feedback to say we should remove this effect and just make the blue stand out more
  • We need more shots with Beth and Drea playing instruments, as Emma is the main singer people were confused what part Beth and Drea played in being a girl band - to emphasis we are the producers and we play instruments in the song we need to incorporate more shots to highlight this
Overall, we received a lot of positive feedback about our music video, saying it was very impressive and looked very professional. People generally liked all of the shots we have included and the cuts we have chosen to use

First Draft of Black Beauty Music Video

This is the first draft of our music video. We've left enough time to get a range of feedback from a variety of people.

"Tour" Update

Due to the nature of this project, our band is currently on tour. We thought it would be a nice touch to tie our social media in with our given tour dates.

Editing The Website

We started putting together the website gallery of photos from the shoots we did and added a bit of information about the photographer who took the photos. We want to add some photos from our latest photoshoot that we did as they link to the image we are after a lot better. As we took these photo at the start of this project, we have since slightly changed our image and we want to show this on the website.

This is our tour dates page. We need to make this page look more exciting and interesting as the backgrounds and text looks quite boring and needs a lot of work.
This is our shop page with a few clothing options. We need to add some more options to fill the page and make it look more interesting.

"Fan Made" Posters

I thought it would be a nice unique touch to create lyric posters for some of the other songs on our album. As the songs aren't real, I took some of the titles that we had already decided on, and tried to construct one or two lines that use the title in some way. I tried to create lyrics that matched the concept and sound of Black Beauty.

Digipak: Third Draft

To improve our digipak and make it look professional and have good continuity, we changed the back album cover picture to black and white as every other page was black and white. It makes the entire digipak look smoother and more put together.

Posters For The Website

These are posters that will be for sale on the website.

Hand Drawn Digipak

This is a hand drawn plan of the digipak, with a small summary on each specific detail of each panel.

Radar Interview

This is our written magazine interview with Radar talking about the album, and what to expect in the future.

Peer Feedback

Our classmates posted feedback on our website, and these were the responses we got. We plan to listen to this criticism, and alter our band's website accordingly.

Photo Shoot #3 Backstage Shots

We held a third photo shoot so we could more photographs for the website and digipak. Beth took pictures as proof of shots.

Poster Inspiration Analysis

We analysed a few posters we plan to draw inspiration from for our band posters.

The Video So Far

We uploaded the first half of our Black Beauty music video, as to get feedback from our peers and teachers.

Editing Progress So Far

So far, we have a strong bulk of the first half of the song completely edited. We need to continue this hard work to complete the second half to the same standard. As you can see from the following images, we have changed shots many times and added in many effects. Here is the process/progress:

Social Media Q&A

As of 20/11/14

Our social networking sites are being constantly updated, for example our Instagram page:

And our Twitter page:

Blog Self Reflection

Three targets to improve:

  1. Make sure all my labels are correct
  2. Document our progress in Premiere Pro
  3. Keep up to date on all posts and make sure everything is written up

New technology:
I have used a website called Powtoon to create a more professional outlook on what we think our target audience is and how to target them.
I have used new effects on Adobe Premiere Pro that we didn't know about before to give our shots a vintage, grainy look.
I am planning to use eMaze to upload our Poster Analysis.

Drafts:
I constantly post screengrabs of the digipak and the music video's progress.

Mark out of 20 so far: 17

Is it fun to look through?
The posts are very to the point as to not be an overload of information, but we still cover everything that needs to be. Everything links directly to Hybrid Beauty.

Is the learning journey evident?
I think so, I have a lot of posts dedicated to progress and changes we, as a group, have made.

More targets for improvement:
Upload more drafts of the editing process so the examiner can see our project in progress
Use more new technology and different websites to show variety and make my blog more interesting
Dedicate more posts to inform of the learning process throughout this task
Update our social networking sites more often, be consistent

Social Media

Hybrid Beauty's Instagram
Hybrid Beauty's Twitter Account
Hybrid Beauty's Youtube Account

We've created social media pages for Hybrid Beauty. Here is a few examples!

Peer Website Reflection

Grace Starr:
WWW - Professional looking blog, the whole image ties in with the look Starr is using to portray herself as. Lots of information on every page.

EBI - Perhaps add a few more pages e.g. a page for the tour rather than trying to cram it all onto one page, or a gallery page.

Nicholas Alexander:
WWW - A good amount of pages with a good amount of information. Keeping with the conventions of what Nicholas Alexander is about. Good colour scheme and conventions throughout.
EBI - The text is abit unprofessional? Change wording to improve.

Encoded:
WWW -
Really like the countdown idea in the top right. A nice amount of pages with relevant information and pictures. Information spread across pages evenly.
EBI - The font could tie in with the genre and conventions of 'Encoded' a little bit better, maybe spray paint or stencil effect?

Cosmo:
WWW - Really good background image and font used throughout. It looks very professional. The scroll between each page is pretty good too.
EBI - Add more detail on each page, they look a little empty.

Hybrid Beauty:
WWW - Conventions and genre are similar to the font and background chosen. Relevant pictures and information throughout.
EBI - More pages needed and more information needed for particular parts of the website i.e, band profiles.

Alleyways:
WWW -
Looks so professional. Font is extremely appropriate and the general website looks very tidy, informative and,b fun.
EBI - Sometimes the white font is hard to read if the background image is in black and white as the white text hits the white parts sometimes, give text black outline or change colour all together. Wouldn't put proof of filming in the gallery; it looks a bit unprofessional.

Alex Echo:
WWW -
Website looks professional and the font ties in nicely with the genre. I like the idea of having a logo to brand who you are (the magnet) and a banner, be sure to use it in your digipak too!
EBI - Info page is a bit generic in terms of information given. Reword some of it to revamp it. Change the web address so it is Alex Echo and looks professional.

James Couleur:
WWW -
Professional looking website, colour scheme, font, and background constant throughout, and fits within conventions.

EBI - Some of the pages have  one sentence of information on them, are they finished?

Creating Our Youtube Account

This is how we created out Google account for our band and then from this we were able to make a YouTube account for our fans. This will be displaying everything to short vidoes about the band and the completed new music videos. As you can see we started off with no subscribers but this will quickly change once we have uploaded our footage onto their and updated out channel more.

Poster Inspiration

Charlie XCX Posters
The 1975 Posters

Foster The People Posters

Lana Del Rey Posters

HAIM Posters

Nina Nesbitt Posters

This is a sample of posters we hope to draw inspiration from. Fonts in some cases continue as a motif throughout, however, most artists have variation in fonts used within different posters. Some use graphic effects and prints to create their posters, however, most use pictures of the artist or group.

We plan to use a mixture of photography and graphic design, as well as our motif font for our selection of posters.

Audience Questions

http://www.powtoon.com/show/fzy2o1MLWot/hybrid-beauty-audience/

We answered some questions about our generic audience, and what they're like. It gives an insight on how we should market Hybrid Beauty.

NME Front Cover Ideas

Here are 3 examples of NME covers which Joe had a look at in order to base his front cover idea on. We have noticed that in most of them their is a large focus on the front cover of the lead singer centralized with the other information that appears written around them in a white font. The main story is usually in a feature colour in bold. The NME is always in the top left corner in bold usually in either red or white writing.

Editing the Website

Here shows Emma editing the website and making it look more 'our style'. We thought that this picture worked really well with the website lay out, as it is a natural shot of us just talking and laughing. The dark purple filter, light pink text, and black background all work together, and is starting to being together our image.
