R&B is a music genre that combines elements of
rhythm and blues, soul, funk, pop, hip hop and dance. Prominent artists include
Christina Aguilera, All Saints, Beyoncé and Emeli Sandé.
Album covers often feature a medium close up or,
sometimes a close up of the recording artist. Backgrounds are often one colour
or a very plain backdrop as not to distract from the artist. Font is not placed
in one particular area or in any particular style or colour, but is often a
motif for the artist that will recur on all of their merchandise. Font colour
often coincides with the colours featured in the album art, but may stay the
same throughout all of their merchandise, as another feature of the motif.
Filters are also used in R&B album art, which makes the entire image
greyscale, or tinted one colour.
The artist’s stance is often looking directly into
the camera, with arms raised, to portray strength and stature. Another common
stance is having the artist looking into the distance, off camera, with arms
down, to portray a non-committal casualness, as if to make them look like they
don’t have to try hard to look good on the album cover.
Demonstration and Love, Charlie are the albums in which our songs feature. Again, the
album covers are fairly simplistic, and both have filters. In order for us to
fit in with the genre of R&B, we will have to take all of these elements
when making our album cover.
